In today's conditions of development of a society for the production of competitive products, the work of any enterprise is unthinkable without its integral automation. This task can only be solved by the wide introduction of computer-integrated control systems of technological processes and automated control systems of the enterprise based on the latest microprocessor control devices.

To create and maintain the functioning of such structures, specialists in automation, computer-integrated technological and information systems are needed.

Taking into account this, on the basis of the Institute of Physics, Mathematics and CIS of Cherkasy National University named after Bogdan Khmelnytsky in 2003, the training of specialists in the field of computer-integrated technological processes and production was started.

For the proper preparation of future specialists at the graduation department - automation and computer-integrated technologies (head - assistant professor V.G. Gritsenko) a necessary material and technical laboratory base and a highly qualified professorial teaching staff have been selected.

The department prepares specialists for design, production, management, experimental and research professional activities.

The scientific work of the Department of Automation and Computer-Integrated Technologies is associated with the development and implementation of various types of automated control systems. In particular, the department staff conducts research in the field of automated control and knowledge correction. An automated training load management system was created and implemented. Also, the work is actively aimed at designing and manufacturing automated systems of scientific research on the basis of modern microprocessor technology.

Learning in this direction has a clear practical orientation. Under the leadership of the faculty of the department AKIT students acquire skills in the creation of control information systems of various levels of complexity.

The Department of Physics provides the teaching of theoretical courses, conducting practical and laboratory classes for the training of specialists in physics, mathematics, computer-integrated technologies, etc.

The department has 11 educational laboratories, 2 departments of educational workshops of the department, which provide training on the relevant disciplines and scientific work. The laboratories are equipped with modern appliances and computer equipment.

The scientific work of the department of physics is carried out in two main directions:

• - "Diffusion, phase transformations and solid phase reactions in alloys and, in particular, in nanomaterials";
• - "Ways of improving the study of physics in general education and higher education institutions".

The results of scientific research are regularly published in recognized foreign and domestic academic academic journals.

In order to develop the mathematical faculty of Cherkasy National University named after Bogdan Khmelnitsky and the educational direction "Applied Mathematics" on July 1, 2002, the Department of Applied Mathematics was created. The department was headed by Doctor of Technical Sciences, prof. V.M. Seredenko

Since September 2003, specialists in the field of "Applied Mathematics" have been trained. Significant contribution to the formation and development of specialty made prof.  Yu.V. Trius and prof. V.M. Seredenko

From September 2009 till February 2010, the department was headed by a doctor of technical sciences  B.P. Holovnia.

In 2009, the first issue of Masters of Applied Mathematics took place. And in December of the same year the accreditation of the specialty for the educational-qualification level "Master" was successfully passed.

From March 2010 till September 2010 the department was headed by the candidate of physical and mathematical sciences, associate professor O.O. Bohatyrov

At present, the Department of applied mathematics is headed by a doctor of technical sciences B.P. Holovnia.

The Department of Mathematics and Methods of Mathematics Training provides the teaching of fundamental mathematical and methodological disciplines, conducting practical classes for the specialties of the Educational-Scientific Institute of Physics, Mathematics and Computer Information Systems (Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Physics, and Acredit), as well as for other specialties of our the university. Since 2005, the department is headed by the doctor of pedagogical sciences, professor Tarasenkova N.A.

The scientific work of the staff of the Department of Mathematics and Methods of teaching mathematics is carried out within the framework of the cathedral theme "Problems of Mathematical Preparation of Students' Youth in General and Higher Educational Institutions" (the number of state registration 0113U001691, head of the topic - doctor of pedagogical sciences, prof. Tarasenkova N. А.) and an individual theme "Conditions of durability and instability of mechanical systems" (executor - Associate Professor Lila D.M.). The component of the cathedral theme is the project «Theoretical and methodological provision of high-quality mathematical education of general and higher educational establishments in the conditions of European integration», financed from the state budget of Ukraine (the number of state registration   0115U000639, the head of the subject is Associate Professor Serdiuk Z.O.). The results of scientific research are constantly published in the form of articles, abstracts and materials of reports, textbooks, teaching aids.

The Department of Mathematics and Methods of Mathematics Training regularly holds an international scientific and methodological conference "Problems of Mathematical Education".

At the Department of Mathematics and MNM there is a postgraduate and doctoral program in the theory and methodology of teaching mathematics (supervisors: Professor Tarasenkova N. А., Assoc. Prof. Bogatyreva I. M., Assoc. Prof. Bosovsky M. V., Assoc. Prof. Kolomiets O. M., Assoc. Prof. Serdiuk Z. О.).

From 2005 on the initiative and under the guidance of prof. Tarasenkova NA, Department of Mathematics and MNM, the work of correspondence mathematical studies "I and my mathematics" for pupils of 7-11 forms of schools of Cherkasy region was started.
